Titanium aluminum carbide is a new type of ternary layered ceramic material with unique properties, which has received widespread attention from materials scientists and physicists. 
Titanium aluminum carbide (Ti2AlC) belongs to the hexagonal crystal system and possesses both metallic and ceramic properties: it has the same electrical and thermal conductivity as metals, as well as high elastic modulus and excellent high-temperature mechanical properties similar to ceramics. It has good electrical and thermal conductivity, high elastic modulus and low Vickers hardness, and good resistance to damage; Capable of cutting at room temperature and producing plastic deformation at high temperatures; It also has good high-temperature stability and antioxidant properties. At the same time, it also has good thermal vibration resistance, damage resistance, and excellent chemical corrosion resistance. 
MAX phase ceramics (including Ti3SiC2, Ti3AlC2, etc.) are a highly anticipated new type of machinable conductive ceramic material. This type of ceramic contains over sixty types of ternary carbides or nitrides. M represents the metal element in the front of the transition group; A represents the main group elements, mainly the elements of the third and fourth main groups; X represents carbon or nitrogen element. Among them, Ti3SiC2 has been extensively studied. Ti3SiC2 was successfully synthesized by Professor Barsoum M's research group at Drexel University in the United States in 1996 using a hot pressing method, and its excellent properties were discovered. Due to its unique nano layered crystal structure, this type of ceramic material has properties such as anti-oxidation, self-lubricating, high room temperature fracture toughness, and conductivity. This type of material can be widely used as high-temperature structural materials, electrode brush materials, chemical anti-corrosion materials, and high-temperature heating elements.
